The Tale of Al Young’s 1971 Plymouth Cuda 340 Construction

The story of Al Young’s 1971 Plymouth Cuda 340 is an inspiring one. Al purchased the car for a mere $500 back in 1977 and used it as his daily driver for a while. Unfortunately, he had to put it away for five years due to financial constraints. But fate had other plans for this beauty.

In the 1980s, Al started attending custom car shows and became enamored with the shiny chrome and vivid paint jobs. That’s when he decided to embark on a mild restomod project for his beloved Cuda.

In 1986, Al dismantled the car and sent all the front and rear suspension components to be chromed. He opted for a stunning Black Cherry color for the exterior and enhanced the 340 V8 engine with a solid lifter cam, Edelbrock intake manifold, and a Holley 780 carburetor.

Thanks to Al’s meticulous attention to detail, his 1971 Plymouth Cuda restomod won multiple first-place awards at car shows in the late 80s. And to this day, Al has kept the Mopar exactly the way it was back then, without changing a single thing. This car holds a special place in his heart as it was his first car, and he hopes he will never have to part with it.
