With a redemption story fit for a phoenix, this Trans Am rises again! Lance, from Turnin Rust, is on a mission to explore the collection of a friend who has been a Trans Am enthusiast since his younger years. His goal is to assess the cars he still owns, evaluate their condition, and potentially bring some home with him.
The owner of the cars purchased the 1978 Trans Am in 1990 and drove it for several years until his son needed a vehicle for high school. After his son returned the car, it remained parked in the owner’s yard, alongside a 1981 Trans Am.
Although the cars were in running condition when they were parked, one of them had a carburetor issue that was never resolved. The cars were subsequently put on the back burner when the owner suffered a heart attack. Despite receiving interest from various individuals, no serious buyers came forward.
Initially, the 1981 car was intended to be used as a donor vehicle for the 1978 Trans Am. The owner planned to transfer the t-tops from the 1981 model onto the ’78 model, but the former is now just a roller. The 1978 Trans Am is described as having “minimal” rust, with many spare parts and a factory-original 400 cubic inch engine. A few years ago, the engine was serviced by Precision Motors, but the exact details of the work done are unknown.
By following along with the video below, we check in with the Turnin Rust YouTube channel that tries to breathe life back into a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am once again. This thing was certainly a cool car in its day. However, after sitting for a decade, it’s going to need a little bit of love. After getting that TLC, eventually, it’s able to fire up. The process is so addicting that we can’t pass this gem up!
