The American dream is often associated with being in the United States to truly experience it. This sentiment holds true even in the automotive industry, where few American-style vehicles have gained traction overseas. However, the Ford Mustang has managed to become a global icon and is one of the few muscle cars with widespread international deliveries.
At a car racing event in Hungary, a yellow-and-black-striped S550 Ford Mustang GT caught the attention of many spectators. Drag Car 4K, a group dedicated to showcasing quarter-mile drag racing events in Europe, captured the Mustang in action as it competed against a 427ci AC Shelby Cobra roadster.
The Cobra, powered by a legendary big block Ford engine, was significantly lighter than the Mustang and proved to be a formidable opponent. Despite an initial jump on the Cobra, the Mustang ultimately lost the race by a wide margin, with the Cobra finishing with an impressive 11.67s time compared to the Mustang’s 13.24s.
While the Mustang is a beloved American classic, its performance against the Cobra on foreign soil highlights the difficulty American-style vehicles have in finding success overseas. Nevertheless, the Mustang’s global popularity is a testament to its iconic status and continued relevance in the automotive industry.
