Twin-Turbocharged 1957 Chevrolet Drag Cars: The Lutz’s Father-Son Duo Dominates Drag Week
The Lutz family is no stranger to the drag racing scene. With not one but two single-digit, 3,000 horsepower, twin-turbocharged 1957 Chevrolet drag cars, they have become a force to be reckoned with. Last year, Jeff Lutz Sr. and his son Jeff Lutz Jr. drove their twin ’57 Chevys over 1,000 miles to Hot Rod Magazine’s ‘Drag Week’ event and dominated the competition.
Both of these impressive cars are running a 692 ci (11.3-liter) V8 with twin 88mm turbochargers connected to a Rossler 210 Transmission. Lutz Jr.’s car, known as ‘The Beast,’ boasts an average pass time of 8.64 seconds at 166 mph, which is no small feat. However, the elder Sr.’s car, aptly named ‘Evil Twin,’ is 800 lbs lighter than The Beast, and its increased power allows it to achieve an average quarter-mile time of 6.84 seconds at 212 mph.
It’s one thing to build a fast car, but to do so while ensuring that the car is street legal and reliable enough to drive over 1,000 miles during five consecutive days is another level of accomplishment entirely. The Lutz’s father-son duo has managed to achieve that, and then some. They have proven that their cars can perform both on the track and on the road.
The Lutz family has shown that with skill, determination, and a bit of horsepower, anything is possible. Their twin-turbocharged 1957 Chevrolet drag cars have set the bar high for other racers, and it’s clear that they will continue to dominate the drag racing scene for years to come.
